Architect of Culture

2022 / Poster and Book

Architect of Culture is a written and visual exploration of what goes into building culture as a minority in the United States. The middle ground between East and West (which is a Western defined term in itself) is a non-linear, subjective territory that constantly evolves based on social and political events. Using blueprints was an ideal visual route to communicate this process of editing, adding and removing aspects from different cultures. The project showcases the highs and lows of seeking identity through culture by highlighting issues that exist in both homogenous communities and as an “outsider” in the U.S.

Instead of solely focusing on strictly my experiences in this gray area, the intention of this project was to create a universal framework that other individuals in a similar position could connect with (regardless of background). I use my own experiences as an example by compiling aspects to build into a personal culture but also crowdsourced information to gain a number of diverse perspectives.

This project was exhibited in the 2022 Design Thesis exhibition, by the way, in the Mason Gross Galleries in downtown New Brunswick from April 25th to May 6th 2022.
